The academic faculties represent the core of the school: theirs is the responsibility to promote an understanding and appreciation of the subjects taught, to develop the pupils’ ability to apply and transfer the knowledge acquired, to foster reflective and independent learning, to encourage the formulation and expression of coherent thought; in short, to stimulate the pupils to realise their intellectual, imaginative and creative potential.

In this, the faculties are supported by Senior Teachers with particular responsibilities and duties, by the Form and Pastoral Care systems, and by the Careers Service.

The interdependence of the support structures and the academic core is evident in the close working relationship between the members of staff in charge of the separate systems, and in the recognition by pupils, and by their parents, of the shared responsibility for their progress and welfare.
