The Head of Pastoral Care, Deputy Heads of Pastoral Care and the Senior Form Tutors attached to each year group seek to provide informed and sensitive pastoral guidance which supports the pupils in their personal development and in times of personal, family or social difficulty.
Effective Pastoral Care is, we believe, dependent on the contribution of all members of staff: in the College, some 70 Tutor Groups meet each morning for 10-25 minutes, and this provides members of staff with a unique opportunity to establish a relationship which is quite different from that of the subject teachers. Tutors are able to monitor the general welfare and demeanour of pupils, show interest in the activities, achievements and progress of individual pupils, offer advice and encouragement and reinforce a positive sense of community within the College. The Tutors, who are to an extent the "eyes and ears" of the Pastoral Care team, work closely with the Senior Form Tutors and the Deputy Heads, each of whom has a weekly meeting with the Head of Pastoral Care. The Head of Pastoral Care also has responsibility for the delivery of the College’s programme of Personal and Social Education and, importantly, is supported by the Head of Personal Development. She also liaises with the Lady Warden and the Senior Resident Master on matters which affect boarding pupils. |
