Fullerton House Information

Facilities
This building accommodates fourteen classrooms which have been designed with regard to modern teaching techniques. Each room has the facility for using television and video material. A specialist room is set aside for the teaching of music. A comprehensive central library is stocked with reference material and a growing collection of suitable fiction. It also houses other resource material in the form of maps, charts and periodicalswhich may supply up to date information for project work.

Fullerton House

Aim
It has long been the dominant idea in the minds of the Governors and Staff to guide the pupils towards sound Christian belief and a true meaning of its responsibilities. The many changes in education over the years have done nothing to alter their idea and the Governors continue to emphasise the significance of morning assembly and the teaching of Religious Education for all pupils, except those exempted at the parents' request.

Curriculum
Fullerton House prepares pupils for the Grammar School of Methodist College and regards as the foundation of that preparation, a basic study of the English Language and a sound training in the principles of Mathematics and Science. Emphasis is placed on the provision of a wide range of reading experiences and the development of a versatile use of written and oral Language to meet the various demands of modern living.

Children are encouraged to explore the environment and, both through practical observation and by reference to resource materials, to broaden their experience of the world around them. This need to observe at first hand will mean class outings with children leaving the school premises. On these occasions their destinations may be museums, factories, theatres, history parks, folk parks or other places of educational interest. Each year a more extensive trip is organised for the final year pupils which in the past has been either skiing or a visit to Holland.

The curriculum is constantly being modified to meet the changing needs of young people and the requirements of the Common Curriculum. In this area, the aim is for the children to develop a disciplined and increasingly independent approach to their work which will stand them in good stead in their future studies. The introduction of a basic course in computers and Information Technology is also intended to provide a foundation for the more advanced work which the pupils will meet in the Grammar School.

Included in the range of other subjects taught are Design and Technology and Art. There is also specialist teaching in Drama, P.E., French and Music which ranges from Choral work to Recorder and Percussion. Tuition in Violin, Piano and wind instruments is available by private arrangement and the school has its own recorder groups and orchestra.

Physical Education
Fullerton House has the use of the superb new Sports' Hall, Gymnasium and the indoor swimming pool in the College and pupils have Physical education each week. P3 classes and upwards will also have a swimming lesson each week. Senior pupils are transported on Friday afternoon to the College playing fields at Pirrie Park to enjoy various sporting activities ranging through Mini-Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Rounders, Football, Tennis, Athletics and Cricket. School teams take part in all sorts of inter-school competitions within the area.

It is appreciated that children who are not well will be unable to take part in physical education, but it is hoped that parents will regard it as an important part of the curriculum, not to be missed lightly. For this reason children are required to produce a note from parents if they are unable to take part in P.E. for any reason.

Pupil Support
Whilst a high standard of attainment is expected of all children at Fullerton House, it is recognised that from time to time some children may experience specific difficulties with their work. Provision is made to deal with these difficulties in small groups or individually with the employment of our own support teacher for the Preparatory Departments.

Liaison with Parents
Great importance is attached to the need for parents to be involved in the education of their children. Parents are invited to discuss their children's progress with staff and are urged to inform the school of any circumstances which may be felt to affect the child's performance in school. Reports are sent out twice a year and, if it is thought desirable, weekly report cards may be used as a means of improving home links in some cases.

The Parent Teacher Association provides a forum for parents to express views and to inform themselves more widely on modern trends in education. The association is also concerned to assist new parents with any problems which may arise and to organise an excellent variety of events to help raise funds for special items of school equipment.

Absence
It is expected that in the case of absence that Parents will notify their child's class teacher as soon as possible. Where the absence is likely to be prolonged it may be necessary to have work sent home. Since each absence must involve a setback, however small, parents are asked to note that absence from School for purely social reasons cannot be sanctioned.

School Dinner
A two course dinner is available under the School Meals Scheme provided by Chartwells Catering at a charge which approximates to the cost of the food only. Modern dining rooms and kitchens are equipped for this service. Children may bring a packed lunch but are not permitted to leave the school premises during the lunch hour.

Entry
New pupils begin school each September. Entry into Form P1 (starting school for the first time) is normally for those who reach the age of five years within the current school year (that is, before 1st July of the year they come to school). Applications should normally be made by September at the latest for entry in September the following year (in other words one year in advance). Application forms should be obtained from the Secretary, Fullerton House. All forms should be accompanied by the appropriate registration fee. Entry for older pupils depends on a suitable vacancy being available, and on the pupil having reached the same academic standard as the year concerned.

Fees
Full information concerning the current fees and the rules governing payment can be found by clicking here or by contacting the Secretary, Fullerton House.

Uniform
Details of the School Uniform as laid down by the College Authorities, are available from the School.
