ECO (The Environment and Conservation Organisation)
ECO is a group of pupils and staff who have a common interest in learning about and working with our environment. The group meets once a week. They engage in debates and discussions on environmental issues, such as endangered species, recycling and “green” living. They organise occasional guest speakers from outside organisations. They also run environmentally-based charity campaigns. For example, this year they collected obsolete mobile phones for recycling. The money raised went to support agencies working in south-east Asia on tsunami relief.

Their major project is the MCB Conservation area. In the past year, members of ECO have done some preliminary clearing up and design work. Next year they will be doing major renovation and planting, with the aim of opening the garden for pupil use in the Spring of 2006. ECO is always keen to welcome new members. They also have their own ‘spin-off’ society for Form 1, the Green Group.
